The anger can last for a short time or 4 or 5 hours, might extend into the next day. During a home improvement installation the installer told my dad and me how long, who else was involved in completing the task and about how long. He misunderstood, but when I tried to explain where he got confused I was accused of taking control away from him. He comes in my room when I stay with him and turns on the light while I am sleeping to see who's there and if he has someone to feed. I've been dealing with this for 2 1/2 years. thank you vlg

squaw2, Is your Dad on any medications that may make him irritable? What about UTI's? Urinary tract infections can also make seniors act in a very uncharacteristic manner. Has his blood sugar been tested? I think a doctor should evaluate him to see if there is anything deeper going on to cause this so it can be addressed. My mother gets "strange" when a UTI is present and after several days of antibiotics it goes away, until the next UTI.

And you have the right to walk away, unless you are his guardian. Have you applied for Aid and Attendence from the VA? Is there a local VFW that could assist you.?

Yes, he has dementia and he is 97. I am a burned out, stressed out caregiver. I am looking at veteran assisted living, but talk about politics to get help for the few WII veterans. Even if I do find an assisted living place that doesn't mean he is going to move and he has that right.
