My mother's hearing has gotten drastically worse, while I've been noticing her ankles getting more swollen. She has been on water pills for several years, and has recently gotten a higher dosage, but there is still swelling.

I have not noticed this link with either of my parents.

My Dad had heart failure for 10 years. That last couple years it was getting big worse. Swollen legs, breathing because very difficult....finally put on oxygen....etc. but, never seemed to have trouble hearing. Trouble understanding..yeah..but, not because he didn't hear it. He could hear a pin drop in the next room.

Mom has heart failure. Her hearing is no worse she today than before it all started.

Maybe there is another factor?

Yes, there is a definite link between heart problems and hearing loss. You weren't imagining things, brdlvr. :)

That's an interesting observation, brdlvr1. Now that I that I think back to my parents, my Mom [98] could hardly hear, had swollen ankles, and took water pills. My Dad [95] was just starting to turn up the volume on the TV, and he would get swollen legs if his socks were too tight at the ankles.

And my hearing isn't as sharp as it once was, and I have an A-fib type of issue.

You might have something there, or maybe it is all coincidental because as we age so goes some of our hearing, and many of us are on blood pressure pills :P
